What is the best pre-flight checklist to Marrakech?

Are you planning a trip, a vacation, or a business trip to Marrakesh? This pre-flight checklist is for you.

Ahead of thinking about packing your travel bag, make sure you have thought about the formalities and everything that needs to be organized before you travel to the red city of Morocco.

Before you set off, review this list carefully so you don’t forget an important step. Don’t leave it to the last minute! Once you think you are ready, you can prepare your luggage and you’ll be ready to go

  1. Vaccination

First of all, think about the necessary vaccinations for your trip. If you are traveling to Morocco, the vaccine isn’t obligatory at the moment, but you will be asked to do a coronavirus test before entering the country. If you are already vaccinated, this will make your trip much easier and help you gain so much time.

2. Backup your documents

For more security concerning important documents, we advise you to take certain steps before leaving on the trip. Therefore, copy and scan documents such as passports, visas, insurance cards, reservations, and plane flights… This allows, once on the spot, not to go out with your passport in the street but just with a copy, this will help you avoid losing any important documents in any way and also allows, in case of a hard time to have all your original documents available.

3. Plan your first day

On the day of your arrival, you should know already how to reach your Hotel. We advise you, especially if you arrive late in the day after many hours of flying, to already book your Hotel and to look at how to get there from the Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) to Medina.

You can check our Article about the different Marrakech transportation options available and the prices on how to get a taxi from Marrakech Airport to Medina old town.

4. Prepare your documents: passport, Visa, and driving license

The basic document for your travel trip is your passport and your visa if needed.

Some countries require a visa to enter Morocco, so check if you need a visa to get there.

In case you need to obtain a visa, you should contact the Consulate of morocco in your country to get more information. Please keep in mind that the visa process may require additional documentation and that the time frame for obtaining a visa is determined by the consulate. For this reason, it is advisable to apply for your visa well in advance.

And If you will be driving while traveling to Marrakesh, you will need specific documentation and insurance. Generally, you can drive without any problems if you have an international driving license, if not you can contact the Moroccan consulate to get more info.

5. Get your Medical & Travel Insurance

Many people regret not having purchased medical insurance prior to their trip when faced with a medical emergency abroad. Since in morocco, the cost of hospitalization and medical care can be very high, it is strongly recommended that you purchase medical insurance that provides full coverage in case of illness or accident during your trip. If you will be visiting several countries during your Marrakesh trip, make sure that the insurance provides coverage in all the countries, even during stopovers and short stays.

Make sure you check that the insurance you are willing to purchase covers all the activities you will be doing during your trip, including those considered risky, and motorcycle-related activities usually require specific coverage such as (rallies, quads, jet skis, etc.)

Also keep in mind that if you are going to practice a high-risk sport or activity (mountaineering, caving, diving, etc.), your insurance coverage must specifically include the performance of this activity abroad and be sufficient to cover any rescue, medical evacuation, or transfer of mortal remains.  That’s why we mentioned earlier to plan your trip ahead to avoid any unnecessary inconveniences that may happen.

6. Prepare your medications

If you have a chronic illness, you must take the necessary medication with you for the duration of your trip. All medications, especially those requiring a prescription, should be carried in carry-on luggage in their original containers with visible labels and, as a precaution, a second copy of the medication may also be carried in checked luggage. You must carry with you the name and contact information of your doctor, information about your medical condition and treatment, details of the medication (including generic names), and the prescribed doses.

If you need to travel with other medical equipment, such as syringes, you must bring a doctor’s report certifying the need for the equipment, as you may be asked to do so by customs or security personnel.

7. Plan your journey & get informed

Marrakesh is an amazing city with so many monuments, mosques, and places to visit that it will be almost impossible to visit them all in a short trip. Make sure you plan your journey ahead to determine how much money you will need for the trip, places that you want to visit first, and the hotel that you are planning to stay in.

Note that you can go from Marrakesh to other cities for a day or two and then come back for an amazing experience and some unforgettable moments.
